1. It creates a space for trivial and time-wasting content.
Video blogging, or vlog for short, is of the most popular ways of giving some sort of media to internet users. In these channels, there's people that talk about random stuff and which they give their convoluted opinion, often in the midst of a whole chant and seemingly strange comments in the middle of the place. Even though there's little educational material to obtain from such videos, they seem to be one of the most popular content in YouTube. My problem here is this: while there's no real harm in the exposition of opinions and ideas, many of these so-called vloggists only seek some form of invalid fame, opportunities, and even money while doing endless rants or complaints towards a set of people, customs and organization, among other things. This is rather low in terms of validation and credentials, as these people simply try to bypass those artists who are constantly trying to progress in different artistic careers but who happen to do so in the classical way - i.e. without the need of technology and globalization. This, in turn, has contributed to a landmass of people with a penchant for whining, which in turn, can create a rather chronic depressing attitude.
2. It enables negative/stupid people to expose and give a platform to their useless and harmful views.
On March 31, 2017, many powerful companies, among them Wal-Mart, ceased to advertise in You-Tube after to a specific article written by the Washington Post denounced a multitude of prejudiced videos in which the uploaders freely exposed their discriminatory views both in the video titles and the content, against people of different ethnic origins, religions, and other basic characteristics of identity. This caused a reduction or complete annulment of video monetizing for the rest of the people in YouTube, hence there were many requests towards viewers to donate to many content creators who genuinely and with effort created content for the well-being of their audiences.Bragging about a crime a uploading this on YouTube is but a staple of a low IQ. Showing off what you stole, like the video titled "Chick Bank robber" will only serve to get you caught. Regardless of the justice done due to the actions of stupid criminals, such videos can be inspiring for petty criminals, which of course helps neither society as a whole, or their relations in specific.
Since these negative people are now receiving a bigger audience than their foolish brains can handle, they in turn become more unapologetic and rowdy in their personalities. Thus, a negative behavior is being indirectly reinforced, as there's more available means to connect a negative person with another, just by the click of a video.
3. It makes 15 minute fame out of talentless people.
Chewbacca Mom, Ruby and other viral videos show a complete lack of talent and merit to otherwise famous people. This 15 minutes of fame, named after Andy Warhol's remark, have grown from being a curious phenomena to an outward pathetic attempt at fame. Despite the popularity, these people only show a lucky strike when their videos quiet down, not unlike a one hit wonder. Unfortunately, this has a negative side effect. Now, it seems highly special to discipline a child in front of the camera, but this can cause a major havoc to the child. Just like the girl who cried to go to McDonald's, these children have a staggering mark that's widely known to many. This is what it is to upload to YouTube, that private matters can become powerful.
In short, YouTube can become both an escape, or a mixture of tar and glue to the spectator. While I admit that I constantly watch videos on the website, the truth is, the less time I spend on the comments section in there, the better my day is.
